World Space Week India

It is the largest annual public space event on Earth as announced by the United Nations General Assembly in the year 1999. The objective is to celebrate internationally the beginning of human space age and its contribution to the betterment of the human living condition. It is celebrated from 4–10 October every year across the globe.

In India, Mr. Sachin Bahmba, CMD – SPACE Group is the national coordinator for WSW celebrations. SPACE celebrates WSW by encouraging students and public to get involved in astronomy and space science-related activities. The company is actively involved in organising astronomical events such as interactions with eminent astronomers, astronauts, public sky watches and painting competitions on the theme of astronomy, etc. Also, coordinates events & encourages the public all over India to participate and host activities during WSW.

Each year the company compiles and sends a collective joint report to the UN about the celebration and activities conducted during WSW on the pan-India level. Eighty percent of the WSW entries from India are reported by SPACE, and the company is counted among the top contributors for the global event

World Space Week India 2022 celebrates "Space and Sustainability"

Join thousands of participants in over 90 countries celebrating sustainability in space, and sustainability from space.

In 2021, more than 6,000 events were organized in over 96 countries under the theme “Women in Space”.

  • This includes measuring climate change, identifying pollution on land and at sea, supporting agriculture in developing nations-an endless list.
  • Of the 169 targets that form the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, 65 directly benefit through Earth observation satellites and related technologies.
  • Achieving the SDGs would be so much harder without the tools and techniques available to scientists through space exploration.

Mission

The mission of World Space Week Association (WSWA) is to strengthen the link between space and society through public education, participation, and dialogue on the future of space activity using World Space Week as a focus.

Strategy
  • Institutionalize World Space Week in the plans of other organizations globally on the largest possible scale;
  • Seek media coverage of the resulting celebration;
  • Provide participating organizations with coordination and assistance;
  • Hold events at a global level.

Global Expansion

Expands World Space Week by encouraging participation of organizations around the world.

Support Services

Provides World Space Week participants with products and services to assist them in celebrating and publicizing World Space Week;

Coordinates with the United Nations and reports annually on World Space Week participation and results.

Educational Program

Increases educational benefits of World Space Week by providing teachers with classroom activities that use space to excite students about learning.

Inspires students globally by flying representative students in simulated zero gravity airplane flights.
